The final funding pledge for an £95.7m centre for renewable energy research has been secured.

Strathclyde University will host the facility that aims to help develop a world leading centre for the development of renewable energy technologies.

Capital funding of £89m had already been secured from Scottish Enterprise and the Scottish Funding Council among others, with the final contribution being £6.7m from ERDF announced on Monday.

The project aims to create up to 500 new research, technology and engineering jobs.

Alex Neil, Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure, said: "It is a substantial boost for our renewables industry that we have secured the final £6.7m that will enable this world class project to go ahead.

"I am sure this project can prove a real boost for our economy, securing massive research investment and hundreds of new jobs."
