An 18-year-old man has died after he was airlifted to hospital following an incident at Arbroath cliffs.
Tayside Police said emergency services were called to the area at around 11.40pm on Thursday after reports of a man missing.
A search involving police officers and a police dog, coastguard and an RAF Search and Rescue helicopter from Kinloss was carried out and a man was found at the foot of the cliffs at around 4.30am with life threatening injuries. It was understood he had fallen.
He was airlifted to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee but died before arriving at hospital.
A Tayside Police spokesman said: “Paramedics were quickly at the scene and tended to the casualty en-route by helicopter to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. Tragically he succumbed to his injuries before arriving at hospital.
“The deceased’s details will not be released until he has been formally identified. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident and as with all sudden deaths a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal".
