Emergency services in Tayside responded to four separate road accidents on Tuesday evening.

The first incident occurred at around 6.15pm, and involved an overturned car on the M90 northbound near junction nine at Balmanno Hill, Bridge of Earn.

The 50-year-old female driver was trapped in her vehicle, and firefighters had to cut her free with specialist equipment.

She was taken to Ninewells hospital in Dundee, where her condition is being assessed. A Tayside Police spokeswoman said she had suffered a "fairly serious, but not life-threatening" injury in the crash.

Traffic delays were expected to last into the late evening as officers investigated the crash, and drivers are being advised to approach the area with caution.

The second incident involved five vehicles, and occured on the A90 near junction 11 at Barnhill-St Madoes-Kinfauns. All lanes were restricted northbound after the accident. A number of drivers were treated for minor injuries at the scene, the spokeswoman said.

Another incident occurred at 6.41pm when a car hit the central reservation of the A90. No-one was injured in the crash, which involved one car.

The final crash happened just after 6.45 on the M90 near to Muirmont, and involved one vehicle. Again, no-one was injured in this incident.

The police spokeswoman said that all four incidents were being investigated by Tayside Police's traffic unit.

She added that heavy rainfall across Tayside could have played a factor in the crashes.
