An extra 10,000 music fans will get the chance to see their favourite bands at T in the Park in 2012 after the local licensing committee agreed to raise the festival's capacity.
Perth and Kinross Council approved a request by festival operators DF Concerts to vary the terms of the public entertainment licence it holds for the event, which will take place from July 6 to 8 2012 at the former Balado aerodrome, Kinross-shire.
In a report to the committee, the council's head of legal services, Ian Innes, said: "The licensee has submitted a request to vary the capacity of the event for the Friday (currently 75,000) by increasing the number of day tickets by 10,000.
"This would bring the overall capacity on the Friday in line with the capacity on Saturdays and Sundays of 85,000."
In a letter to the committee, Colin Rodger, head of events for DF Concerts, said it believed changes to the site and a proven track record on traffic management made the request "not unreasonable".
The site will be slightly redesigned to provide extra capacity, with a former car park being used to extend camping facilities. The Slam tent, which has hosted acts such as Daft Punk and Fatboy Slim, will also be relocated.
DF Concerts said the increase in numbers would mean it would be better placed to attract top-name acts on the Friday night.
No acts have yet been announced for the Friday, although negotiations are currently under way. Manchester band The Stone Roses are due to headline Saturday's main stage following the announcement of their reformation earlier in 2011.
Festival Director Geoff Ellis said: "The response to The Stone Roses announcement has been fantastic and the rest of the bill is shaping up nicely - we can't wait until February to share it with the best audience in the world."
Half of the festival's ticket allocation went on sale on December 2, with the entire batch selling out in the morning. The final allocation of tickets will go on sale in February.
