Father collapsed and died while attending son's funeral in Falkirk

Hospital: Medics were unable to save Mr Gourlay after he collapsed at his son's funeral.

A father collapsed and died as he attended his son’s funeral.

Tam Gourlay, 62, was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, but despite the efforts of medics, the father-of-three was pronounced dead.

Mr Gourlay, of Stenhousemuir, had been at Falkirk Crematorium for the funeral of his son Gregg, 43, who died in the hospital a week earlier.

Gregg Gourlay's widow Maureen, 42, said it had been "horrendous" for the entire family.

She said: "We were just taking our seats when it happened. He was right in front of us when he collapsed. A lot of people tried to help him and others called for an ambulance, but sadly he didn’t make it."

She said the family were still reeling from her husband's sudden death when his father collapsed and died at the funeral service.

Both men had suffered from heart conditions, with Gregg, who was known as Gus to friends, having already had two heart attacks. He died on December 15 at Forth Valley Royal Hospital after he was taken there for an aortic aneurysm.

Mr Gourlay senior’s funeral was held at the crematorium on Hogmanay.
