A balaclava-clad robber burst into the home of a woman leaving her with facial injuries.
The 68-year-old woman was confronted by the man who was wearing the disguise which exposed only his eyes at her Perth home.
He gained entry to her home and demanded money but was unsuccessful in stealing cash during the incident on Sunday at around 7.30pm at Bridgend Court.
A spokesman for Tayside Police said the woman suffered a facial injury as a result of the incident and was treated at the scene by paramedics.
She did not require hospital attention but will require further medical treatment.
He said: "This was a despicable attack on an member of the community which has left a woman injured. We are certain that the community shares our disgust at this man's actions and we would appeal to them for their assistance in identifying him.
"Her attacker is described as being 5ft 8ins in height and of medium build. At the time he was wearing a black-coloured soft leather jacket, thick black gloves, black shoes and a black balaclava which only had his eyes exposed."
Anyone who can assist with the enquiry should call 0300 111 2222 or speak to any officer.
