A man has died after being swept out into the sea during a fishing trip.
The man, 49, was part of a group of fishermen who were fishing from the rocks one mile off the north east coast of Arbroath.
He was standing on the rocks when he was struck by a wave and carried into the water at around 12.30pm on Sunday.
The two other fishermen with him called Aberdeen Coastguard and lifeboats were launched from Arbroath and Carnoustie.
The Coastguard maintained contact with the two men while the boats travelled to the scene.
A spokesman for Tayside Police confirmed the incident and said the man was located quickly by the lifeboats.
However, attempts to resuscitate him failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the man has not yet been disclosed.
