Meerkats enjoy start of autumn with games in fallen leaves

Meerkats: Enjoying autumn at Blair Drummond Safari Park.

Falling autumn leaves are being used in a fun game of hide and seek for a group of meerkats at a Scottish wildlife park.

Keepers at Blair Drummond Safari Park near Stirling have filled the animals' enclosure with the colourful leaves to encourage them to play and dig.

Hidden in the leaves are the meerkats' favourite treat, mealworms.

Park manager Gary Gilmour said: "It helps stimulate their natural digging action and keeps them occupied for hours. They love it."

Visitors can tour the park until October 28 when it closes for winter. It will reopen in March.

Meerkats are natively distributed throughout southern Africa.
