Second pensioner dies in hospital after car collision near Perth

An elderly woman has died in hospital following a two-car crash which killed another pensioner in Perth and Kinross.

Elizabeth Southwood, 83, of Oakbank Road, Perth, died at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee on Monday.

She suffered serious injuries in the collision at Tibbermore crossroads on the back road between Perth and Madderty on September 28.

The collision involved a silver Renault Laguna and a blue Mazda car.

Rhoda Lawton, 78, of Viewlands Road, Perth, was killed in the collision. She had been a passenger in the Mazda along with Ms Southwood and three other elderly women.

Another woman from the same car, aged 82 was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where she remains in a stable condition.

The others, aged 77 and 83, sustained slight injuries and were taken to Perth Royal Infirmary for treatment.

A spokeswoman for Tayside Police said the 24-year-old woman driver of the silver Renault Laguna was taken to Perth Royal Infirmary suffering from shock. Her passengers, two one-year-old girls and a three-year-old boy were unhurt.

A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
