The RAF Leuchars Jubilee Airshow: A Diamond Celebration got under way on Saturday with the Chinook Display Team, the Typhoon Display Team and the Red Arrows.
Saturday’s flying display also included an E3-D Sentry and a United States Air Force B-52 — a giant of the skies with a wingspan of 185ft.
A crowd of 35,000 spectators took in what will one of the last Leuchars flying festivals as the station is set to become an Army base, with its Typhoons leaving for RAF Lossiemouth in 2013.
Airshow Executive, Wing Commander Neville Clayton, Officer Commanding Base Support Wing, at RAF Leuchars said: "The presence of the B-52 and E-3D Sentry aircraft together at our Jubilee Airshow recognises the close links between the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom and its allies during Her Majesty The Queen’s 60-year reign.
"Right now, our Armed Forces are a part of the United Nations mandated and NATO-led international mission to provide a stable Afghanistan with its own strong and capable Afghan National Security Forces.
"The public will have a chance to see both of these magnificent aircraft in flight and take a closer look while they are in the static display."
