A man died after the car he was travelling in crashed into a tree and flipped onto its roof.

The silver Honda Civic rolled over in the collision killing 37-year-old passenger John Martin.

Emergency services were called to the smash in the town's Lochgreen Road at around 3.30pm on Wednesday.

They found Mr Martin unconscious in the car, while three other men who had been travelling in the vehicle had managed to leave it.

Police confirmed the men, aged 19, 20 and 43, were taken to Forth Valley Royal for treatment, but there injuries were not considered life threatening.

Mr Martin, of Hallglen, Falkirk was pronounced dead at the scene of the smash closed to Greenrigg Farm, while the condition of the other three people in the Honda is not yet known.

The road was closed near Greenrigg Cottages for five and a half hours while police carried out investigations.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said the car had ended up on its roof in the smash after colliding with a tree.

Central Scotland Police are appealing to the driver of a black car which left the scene of the collision to contact them.
