MPs urge Government to invest in major infrastructure projects

The Government has been urged to invest in major infrastructure projects to ease pressure on the hard pressed construction industry.

It follows a long-standing Dundee building firm going into receivership with the loss of 130 jobs.

On Monday it was announced that WH Brown, a construction company which has been involved in a wide range of projects from refurbishment of the prestigious Royal & Ancient building in St Andrews to social housing in Dundee, was to cease trading.

Current economic conditions have been blamed for the news.

Now MPs Stewart Hosie and Jim McGovern have called on the Government to invest in new projects.

Stewart Hosie, SNP MP for Dundee East, said he was "extremely disappointed" by the news.

He called on the Government to invest in social housing projects, which he said would also benefit the city.
