A murderer stabbed a football supporters chief more than 80 times in his home.
Michael Nolan pled guilty to killing John Kennedy in Dundee earlier this year.
At the High Court in Edinburgh on Friday the 44-year-old was sentenced to 17 years in jail for the murder.
Mr Kennedy, 63, was stabbed to death by Nolan at his home in Mossgiel Crescent on April 29.
The murder victim had founded the Charlie Cooke Dark Blues Dundee FC supporters club and acted as its vice chairman while he was also well known in the Linlathen area of Dundee.
After the sentencing, Tayside Police Detective Inspector Gary Ogilvie said: "I am pleased that Nolan has acknowledged his appalling actions in court today. The sentence reflects the brutality of what he did to a 63-year-old man within the confines of his own home.
"By all accounts John Kennedy was a well-known and well-liked individual in the Linlathen community where he lived and beyond. Nolan subjected him to a vicious and sustained attack, displaying a shocking level of violence before leaving him for dead. It was a crime that shocked the community of Dundee and our thoughts are with John’s family at this time.
"In bringing Nolan to justice, Tayside Police undertook a major enquiry involving more than 50 police officers. All there efforts contributed to bringing Nolan to justice. I would particularly like to thank the enquiry team and Scottish Police Service Authority staff for their meticulous and time-consuming work which helped to ensure that we could bring our enquiries to a successful conclusion."
Stephen McGowan, deputy director of serious casework at the Crown, said: "Michael Nolan carried out a brutal and sustained attack on 63-year-old John Kennedy in his own home, stabbing him more than 80 times. He then tried to conceal his crime by throwing away the knife he had used and discarding items of clothing he had been wearing.
"Crimes involving knives continue to rank among the most despicable acts we see in society. We will continue to take a robust approach to anyone caught carrying or using a knife."
