British Olympic silver medallist Liz McColgan MBE has returned to Dundee to encourage sport in local communities.
She was supporting Join in Local Sport which aims to bring the Olympic Games to communities with a weekend of events across the UK in August.
The weekend will be held on August 18 and 19, the first weekend after the Olympics and before the Paralympics.
McColgan, 48, won silver in the 10,000m at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and Gold in the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo.
Her daughter 21-year-old Eilish McColgan is also an athlete and is in line to qualify for the Olympics.
McColgan began her career at Dundee’s Hawkhill Harriers Athletics Club, under cocah Harry Bennett’s mentorship and on Friday she unveiled a plaque at the city’s Caird Park Stadium to mark his importance in her career.
She said: "I am very proud to be a Dundonian and this is a chance for me to mark my journey from athlete to coach here in Dundee. I owe my career to the support of volunteers like Harry Bennett as well as my teachers and staff from Hawkhill Harriers who gave their time so generously and I’m please to be able to mark their contribution.
"Join in Local Sport will really help sports clubs make the most of the Games and harness the enthusiasm of young athletes which is why I’m delighted to be supporting it and would encourage clubs to sign up."
Stewart Harris, chief executive of Sport Scotland: "I'm delighted the Join In weekend could provide an opportunity for sports clubs across Scotland to showcase the many opportunities there are to get involved at a community level. We want to make sure that this fantastic summer of sport gives a real boost to grassroots activity."
