Two men have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in supplying drugs as part of a serious organised crime group in central Scotland.

Derek Walton, 29, from Fallin in Stirling, was jailed for five years and eight months and Donald McLennan, 29, of Inverness, was jailed for two years and three months. Both men were sentenced on Wednesday at the High Court in Glasgow.

Ten other people, involved in the same group and who were key players, received jail terms amounting to 33 years and seven months.

Detective inspector Douglas Telfer, of the serious organised crime unit, said: "This was a long and complex case which started in January 2010 when police received a call relating to a domestic disturbance in a flat in Falkirk. Cocaine worth £75,000 was recovered and a relative of Walton's was arrested and subsequently jailed for being concerned in the supply of cocaine.

"The person in the flat was a relative of Walton's and we had intelligence that Walton was behind the drugs. Our investigation into Walton began and our inquiries led us to various people involved in this crime group.

"The investigations covered every area of this force and drugs worth around £750,000 and £37,000 of money was recovered."

He added: "We have recovered every kind of illicit substance and prevented them from getting onto our streets which can only benefit our communities. The length of sentences and the amount of people that have received jail terms shows that we, and the courts, take this kind of illegal behaviour extremely seriously. We will pursue those intent on bringing drugs to our streets and this should send out a strong warning that there is no hiding place from our officers."
