Inverclyde's newest primary school has been shortlisted for a top architecture award.
Newark Primary School in Port Glasgow has been nominated in the category of "Best Public Building" at the Scottish Design Awards 2009.
The school was officially opened by Prime Minister Gordon Brown in August last year. The £10million school was designed by London-based Studio E Architects.
The design incorporates natural daylighting and ventilation systems which manage the levels of carbon dioxide.
The new building has four roof-mounted wind turbines which can each generate 1 kilowatt of electricity. The level of electricity generated and used can be shown on plasma screens and used as an education tool.
Councillor Iain McKenzie said in a statement: "It's fantastic news that Newark Primary's excellent new building is up for a design award.
"Our brief to the architects was to design an exceptionally high quality and environmentally responsible school that would be an inspiration to the children and staff who use it.
"They have most definitely succeeded and I have my fingers firmly crossed for a win."
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow on May 29.
