Carrick Police claim 100% success in battle against drugs

Police in Carrick, South Ayrshire are pleased with the results from their six monthly performance figures which show a fall across all categories of crime.

Officers have claimed a 100% success rate in the policing of drug related offences and say that this has been due to a clampdown on dealers throughout the area.

Inspector Andy Clapperton, said: "We have just received our six monthly figures for the Carrick section, which are highly encouraging and reassuring news for the people of Carrick."

However the inspector urged Carrick residents not to worry over increases in drug, disorder and vandalism related charges, he explained: "With regards to drugs offences, the main reason for this crime increase was principally due to a number of proactive "action plans" targeting drug dealers.

"Many of these dealers have now been taken out of circulation for the time being and we continue to target others."

Inspector Clapperton expressed his concern over the number of reported vandalism cases in the area.

He said: "Vandalism is by far Carrick's greatest crime problem and will be our main focal issue over the next few months.

"All efforts will be made to deter such crimes by means of preventative and proactive policing. All efforts will be made to detect offenders."

The inspector added: "Carrick officers are already starting to make in-roads into the problem with a recent high success rate of detections in the Girvan area.

"We rely on the co-operation of the public in order to assist us in eradicating this type of crime."
