A Glasgow piper has been crowned the best in the world after seeing off international competition.

Roddy Macleod took first place in the Glenfiddich Piping Championships.

It is the fourth time he has won the competition, with previous victories in 2002, 1997 and 1992.

“I am really delighted to have won,” he said. “I wasn’t sure if I would ever have the privilege of gaining the trophy again.”

Taking part in the invitation-only championships at Blair Castle on Saturday were pipers from across Scotland as well as from Canada.

The competition has been running since 1974.

Peter Gordon, chairman of Glenfiddich distiller William Grant and Sons, said: “It’s an absolute pleasure to welcome the piping community to Blair Castle for the championships.

“The standard has been impressively high and we would like to congratulate Roddy Macleod on gaining the extremely worthy title of Glenfiddich Piping Champion 2011.”
