Scottish Labour leader Iain Gray has unveiled a statue of former Labour leader John Smith in Coatbridge.
The new specially-commissioned work by Scottish artist George Mark is to go on display in Coatbridge Public Library in North Lanarkshire.
Mr Smith was elected as an MP for North Lanarkshire in 1970, and was leader of the Labour party from 1992 until his death in 1994 aged 55. He is buried on the island of Iona in the inner Hebrides.
Speaking after the unveiling Mr Gray MSP said: "We are here on Coatbridge and the greatest service that John Smith did was to his constituents and I think that is shown by the affection with which they still hold him, and the fact that this bust has been placed here in this library in Coatbridge so that local people can see it."
"That was really John's greatest service over the years and I think that he would be telling us at the Scottish Parliament to make sure that we get things right for those who were his constituents, their health service, their education services.
"I think that John would be saying that those were the most important things and that was what you should focus on."
