Police inquiry: £1m cocaine factory uncovered in raid
A drugs factory allegedly containing £1m of cocaine has been uncovered by a specialist police squad, as raids were carried out across the west fo Scotland.
The bust on an outbuilding close to Carmunnock Road, near East Kilbride, on Thursday September 2, reportedly uncovered the drugs, mixing agents and equipment for making and distributing illegal Class A substance.
The scale of the alleged factory suggested more than £1m of cocaine, over 25 kilograms of the drug, was being shipped from there.
Two men, aged 40 and 47, were arrested and will appear in Hamilton Sheriff Court today.
Detective Chief Superintendent Allan Moffat, head of the investigations group the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency, said: "The illegal drugs trade has a significant impact on our communities, through the costs imposed on our justice, health and social systems.
"Many users perceive cocaine to be a 'clean' and 'safe' drug. However, it is an illegal drug, which has serious health risks. The use of adulterants is common place and users can never be really sure what they are taking.
"The SCDEA is committed to tackling the illegal drugs trade to prevent the flow of harmful substances to our communities and to bring those responsible to justice."
Meanwhile police seized cannabis with a street value of £197,000 from a swoop on a house in Airdrie, resulting in the arrest of a 31-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman on Wednesday September 1.
On Thursday September 2 a series of raids on homes in Wishaw recovered £30,000 of cocaine. A 28-year-old man was arrested in connection with the finds.
