An investigation is under way following the discovery of a man's body in a flat in the Shettleston area of Glasgow on Thursday.

Police were called to a flat in Cockenzie Street just after 12.10pm after the body of a 35-year old man was found. They are treating the death as suspicious, and confirmed that he died as a result of a violent attack.

Detective Inspector Graham Cordner from Strathclyde Police said: "At this time I can only confirm that we have found the body of a man, who has been the victim of a violent attack.

"Our enquiry is at a very early stage and we still have to discover how exactly the man died, and indeed formally identify him.

"I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the general area, and who may have seen something that was not quite right or saw someone acting suspiciously.  Any information could be useful at this time."

A post mortem examination is to be carried out to establish the cause of the man's death. The man's name has not yet been released by police.

Forensic examinations at the property are ongoing, and officers have been speaking to local residents and checking CCTV footage.
