Hundreds of residents in Denny have taken to the streets in protest at delays to a planned revamp of the town.

The rally, in Denny town centre, aimed to unite the community to push for work on run-down buildings.

Dilapidated flats had been earmarked for demolition and replacement, but developers involved in the £15 million regeneration project have been affected by the recession.

Falkirk Council has said that developer Henry Boot PLC was still committed to the project but could not continue until it was shure that is new homes would sell. Flats in the town centre are currently surrounded by scaffolding to protect those below from falling masonry.

Saturday's "walk around the block" rally aimed to highlight residents' anger and frustration over the delays.

Under the £15m plans, Denny would benefit from a development including a new supermarket and other shops, offices, a restaurant, library, new homes, better roads and a new civic square.
