The funeral of a Glasgow soldier killed in Afghanistan will be held on Thursday.

Lance Sergeant David "Davey" Walker, 36, of 1st Battalion Scots Guards, was killed on February 18 during Operation Moshtarak, a push to purge Taliban strongholds.

Described by commanding officers as a "great comrade and brilliant soldier", Glasgow-born L/Sgt Walker was fatally wounded while conducting a ground patrol which was met with Taliban fire.

A father of five, he lived with his wife Teresa, who is originally from the North West of England.

He had served in Northern Ireland and prior to his tour of Afghanistan.

L/Sgt Walker was also a keen fisherman and fan of Celtic FC.

His funeral will take place at St Alban and the Good Shepherd RC Church in Blackburn, Lancashire, on Thursday.
