Police in South Lanarkshire are investigating the armed robbery of a bookmaker in a shopping centre.

The Betfred in Blantyre’s Clydeview Shopping Centre was robbed by two men armed with a gun and a knife on Tuesday around 6.40pm. After threatening the female member of staff, the men escaped with hundreds of pounds.

The first suspect is described as a white male who is around 21 years old. He was of a small build and had a gaunt appearance. He was wearing black and orange industrial gloves and a black hooded three quarter length waterproof jacket.

The second suspect was also a white male, aged between 20 and 27 years old. He was of a medium build, between six feet one and six feet three inches tall and was also of a gaunt appearance. He was wearing a black hooded three quarter length waterproof jacket, white trainers and blue denims.

Detective Inspector Gary Church said: "Officers are currently carrying out local enquiries and are viewing CCTV footage.

"The shop was particularly quiet at the time of the incident and I would appeal to anyone, who may have witnessed the incident or seen the suspects outside the shop, prior to the robbery, or fleeing from the scene, to contact the police."
