Murdered: Kevin Carroll was shot in the car park of Asda Robyroyston
Police investigating the murder of a Glasgow gangland figure in the car park of a supermarket are re-appealing for people who were in the vicinity at the time to come forward.
Kevin Carroll, who was known as Gerbil, was shot several times as he sat in the back seat of an Audi outside Asda Robroyston on January 13. Carroll was known by police to have alleged links with organised crime in the city, including with the infamous Daniel crime gang. His girlfriend Kelly Bo is the daughter of gang boss Jamie Daniel.
Officers now want to speak to anyone who was at the shop between 1.15pm and 1.30pm and has not yet came forward to police to do so. A statement from Strathclyde Police on Wednesday said: "Since this murder, officers have been studying CCTV footage taken from Asda around the time of the shooting in an effort to identify people who were there.
"Although they have traced a good number of people, they are still trying to identify several customers who have not yet come forward. They may have information which is vital to this investigation."
At the end of January, the guns used to kill the 29-year-old were found next to Coatbridge Library. As the investigation continues, police are now appealing for information on a White Transit Van which is believed to have been parked near the getaway car.
Detectives say the suspects in the murder left the supermarket car park in a dark blue Volkswagen Golf which was later found burnt out in Yetts Hole Road, Glenmavis, Airdrie on the same day as the murder. Officers have now established that a white Ford Transit Van was seen on Yetts Hole Road between 1pm and 3pm on that day and would have been on the road at the time that the Volkswagen was set on fire.
The vehicle is described as a short wheel base type, with a low roof and a square shaped beacon at the rear of the roof. It is believed to be a 2000 - 2006 model.On Wednesday, Detective Superintendent Michael Orr said: "We are keen to speak to whoever was driving this transit van. The driver may be able to assist us in our enquiries and I would urge whoever was in the van to come forward. I would also ask anyone who saw this van in or around the area to get in touch.
"I understand that people may not have approached us as they think that they never saw anything however please let us be the judge of that. They may have unwittingly seen something that could move our investigation onwards. I would particularly appeal to the customers of Asda to speak to officers if they haven't already done so. Equally, I would urge anyone who was in Yetts Hole Road on Wednesday 13 January to get in touch."
