A 17-year-old man is being treated for chest injuries in Monklands Hospital in Airdrie following a crash on Drumcavel Road in Gartcosh on Monday.

He was driving a Toyota yaris east along the road at around 7.50pm when he collided with a Vauxhall Astra car that was travelling in the opposite direction, and then hit a crash barrier.

He was taken by ambulance to hospital, where staff describe his condition as serious but stable.  

His 16-year-old female passenger was treated for minor injuries and then released from hospital. The 21-year-old driver of the Astra car was not injured.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash.
