A second man has died following an accident on the A737 in Renfrewshire on Sunday January 31.

A 71-year-old woman had been driving her car eastbound on the A737 Linclive Spur near Linwood when she was involved in a crash at about 8.20pm with another car, which was also being driven eastbound by a 25-year-old woman.

As a result of the crash, the pensioner's car crossed the central reservation and ended up in the westbound carriageway. Two men - aged 47 and 39 - got out of their cars to help her, but were hit by a van as they stood on the road.

Thomas Rarity from Bathgate in West Lothian died at the scene, and police confirmed that the 39-year-old died in Glasgow's Southern General Hospital where he was being treated on Saturday February 6. Police are not releasing the man's details.

A report into the incident has been forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.
