An anti-knife crime event featured families directly affected by violence at a meeting in Glasgow.
Labour organised the gathering to highlight its "carry a knife - go to jail" campaign. The party wants mandatory custodial sentences for anyone caught carrying a knife.
John Muir, whose son Damian was killed in Greenock two years ago, spoke at the meeting in Parkhead.
Margaret Curran, MSP for Glasgow Baillieston, speaking before the event, said: "There will be a number of families present who have suffered directly at the hands of knife criminals, losing family members and friends. We need to find out what they want politicians to do about knife crime."
The Scottish Parliament is currently considering new criminal justice legislation.
But the SNP has faced criticism from opposition parties for some of its proposals. These include a reduction in the number of short jail sentences in favour of tougher community punishment.
The Conservatives said Labour had eight years in power to address the social problem.
Bill Aitken, the Conservatives’ justice spokesman, said: "If we don't take tough action now, then Scotland's knife crime epidemic will spiral out of all control."
