Hundreds of schoolchildren across Glasgow and South Lanarkshire will take part in a competition on Friday which celebrates the life and work of Robert Burns.
Around 714 children from 29 primary and secondary schools will descend on Glasgow’s East End at 5pm for the contest, which includes categories such as verse speaking – solo and choral, solo and duet singing and choirs and vocal groups.
The event, organised by the Bridgeton Burns Club, will be held in St Mungo’s Academy in the city’s Crownpoint Road.
The club has been holding a competition to celebrate Burns since 1876.
The pupils who are taking part are from Glasgow, Rutherglen and Cambuslang.
Earlier this week, Robert Burns was named The Greatest Scot following a series of programmes by STV which searched for our nation’s most celebrated son.
Burns came top of a list of 35 candidates.
