Glasgow teenager stabbed after being chased by car

Police are treating an attack on a young man in the east end of Glasgow at the weekend as attempted murder.

Strathclyde Police have said a 19-year-old man was walking in Avenue End Road in Ruchazie with his 20-year-old sister and his 39-year-old mother at around 6.30am on Sunday when a car mounted the pavement, drove towards them and started to follow them.

Two men then got out of the car - described as a dark coloured hatchback - and started to chase the 19-year-old while a third man followed in the car.  When they caught up with the teenager in Gilbertfield Street, they assaulted him and stabbed him.

An ambulance was called and the injured man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he is presently receiving treatment. Medical staff has describe his condition as "stable".

The injured man's mother and sister were uninjured but badly shaken. Police have described the three suspects as in their mid teens to early 20's.

The youngest is described as having fair hair and wearing a light coloured bomber style jacket and white trainers.  The driver of the car is described as wearing a black waist length jacket and white jeans. The third male was described as having a tanned complexion and wearing a cream coloured jumper.

Police investigating the incident have said that immediately prior to the car mounting the pavement there had been another disturbance involving the occupants of the car and another car outside Avenue End Primary School. It is believed that a total of eight people were involved in the disturbance.

Detective Constable Mark Henderson said: "The young man and his family were not involved in the earlier incident and were caught up in this totally unprovoked attack.

"I would appeal to anyone, who may have witnessed the disturbance involving the occupants of the two cars, or, who may have witnessed the assault on the 19-year-old man, to come forward as a matter of urgency."
