Man in custody following river search

A 20-year-old man has been taken into custody after a call to police sparked a major river search.

Helicopters, fire crews and coastguard were called in to hunt for a man reportedly spotted in the River Carron in Falkirk on Thursday evening.

The search was called off after a man aged 20 came forward to police at around 1am.

A statement from Central Scotland Police said: "There was no trace of anyone in the water despite extensive searches in difficult conditions.

"At approximately 1am the search was called off after a 20-year-old man came forward to the police.

"He is currently in police custody and will be subject of a report to the procurator fiscal."

    as a member of the emergency services this stupid act really annoys me , those morons who call and make up a story saying someone is in the water dont you realise that when all the emergency services attend you are reducing the emergency services to the people who actually need them , this is a regular event in Glasgow especially at week ends , I ask the courts to send this idiot to jail for a minimum of a year and send the correct signal out to the other numpties
