280 new jobs are being created in the Gorbals in Glasgow by City Refrigeration.
The company has signed a deal with the Australian retail firm Coles which is worth £100 million a year.
City Refrigeration, which was started in 1985 with four workers, now employs 10,000 people worldwide.
Together with a huge contract with Asda, which is said to be in the final stages of negotiation, it is expected to create 320 jobs in Britain, of which 280 will be in Glasgow.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who spent Friday on the campaign trail with Willie Bain for the Glasgow North East by-election, said: "I'm delighted to be here today for the opening of these new offices.
"New jobs are vital to the economic recovery which is why I welcome the announcement a contract that will bring 320 new jobs to the UK.
"As we work together to build a better future for Britain, Glasgow must not be left behind when the recovery comes."
City Refrigeration was founded by former Celtic director Willie Haughey.
