Police in a Lanarkshire town are investigating two serious incidents which occurred within hours of each other.
On Thursday, a woman was indecently assaulted after she came off a train at Hamilton West Station at around 11.30pm.
The 21-year-old was walking along Yews Crescent when she became aware of a man following her. She was then grabbed from behind and indecently assaulted.
The woman managed to run away and made her way to the Burnbank Filling Station to call for help. Whilst she was within the filling station, she observed the man watching her from bushes across the road. When police arrived he was no longer there. The culprit was wearing a white baseball cap, dark baseball jacket with white sleeves and jeans.
Detective Constable Neil Wilson at Hamilton CID would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the culprit hanging around the area prior to the incident taking place or anyone who may have seen him following the woman to the filling station afterwards.
It is not known whether the culprit had been travelling on the train from Glasgow therefore anyone who was on the train and may have seen a man dressed in the above clothing is also asked to contact Hamilton CID on 01698 483300.
Meanwhile, detectives are appealing for information after an after an attempt was made to rob a security guard at a Post Office in Hamilton on Friday.
At around 10am, a staff member of Group 4 Security was replenishing the ATM machine within Low Waters Post Office in Birkhill Road.
A man, wearing a balaclava and carrying a knife, entered the premises and attempted to rob the security guard. He was unsuccessful and ran from the post office. He made off in a silver coloured BMW in the direction of Eddlewood.
Detective Inspector Tom Carty at Baird Street CID is appealing for witnesses. He said: "Fortunately the female security guard was uninjured however this was a frightening experience for not only her but the staff and customers within the post office.
"I would appeal to anyone who saw this man entering or leaving the premises or recognises the car to come forward. I would also ask anyone who has heard about this incident and has information which may assist this investigation to come forward."
Anyone with information is asked to telephone Baird Street CID on 0141 532 4115.
