Plans for the new £840million hospital have been detailed by Scottish Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon.

The New South Glasgow Hospital campus which will be built by Brookfield Constructions Ltd is the biggest
single NHS project ever undertaken in Scotland.

Ms Sturgeon said the announcement was an important step towards creating a "world-class" new hospital campus.

"Today marks a major milestone in Scotland's biggest ever building project," she said.

The MSP for Glasgow Govan added that the publicly funded project will lead to a major boost for the economy.

"This is not only good news for patients but for the community as a whole. Every penny of the cost will be met from the
public purse and the jobs created by the construction will provide a major boost for the local economy.

"The designs I've seen today for both the new adult and children's hospital will provide them with world-class facilities," she added.

The 14-floor hospital, which will treat around 110,000 patients every year will be built on the site of the existing
Southern General Hospital.

It will have one of the biggest emergency departments in Scotland along with 1,109 beds in single-room accommodation and
20 operating theatres.

Specialist services in renal medicine, transplantation and vascular surgery will also feature in the new building.

Around 2,500 jobs are expected to be created as a result of the project.

A brand new children's hospital, which will replace the existing Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Yorkhill will also be
built next to the adult hospital.

Brookfield Constructions Ltd was chosen from three contenders and awarded the contract for their "inspiring" design and
for offering best value for money.

"We are absolutely delighted to have been chosen as the contractor for the new South Glasgow Hospitals project which will be one of the most advanced medical facilities in Europe," said Brookfield Constructions Managing Director Ashley Muldoon.

STV News revealed on Wednesday how Brookfield Multiplex is the same company that delivered the new Wembley Stadium two
years late and millions of pounds over budget.
