Funeral of second Erskine Bridge death teenager to be held

The funeral for one of the two teenage girls who leapt to their deaths from a bridge in an apparent suicide pact is being held this afternoon.

Georgia Rowe, 14, and Neve Lafferty, 15, jumped more than 100 feet from the Erskine Bridge, near Glasgow, into the River Clyde on October the fourth, hours after spending a "happy" weekend with relatives.

Both girls were pupils at the Good Shepherd Centre in Bishopton in Renfrewshire. They apparently sneaked out of the centre shortly before 9pm and made their way to the nearby bridge before jumping to their deaths side by side.

Staff carrying out routine checks noticed they were missing and began a search of the campus and the immediate vicinity. While pupils at the centre are not supervised around the clock, any outing requires permission. No authorisation was given for the girls to leave the night they died.

The funeral for Georgia, who was born in Hull, will take place at around 1.30pm at Sorn Parish Church, in Sorn, Ayrshire.

Neve was buried following a funeral mass on Tuesday last week in her home town of Helensburgh in Argyll and Bute.
