Glasgow marketing bosses unveil plan for city centre

Glasgow marketing bosses have unveiled a two year plan to strengthen the city's reputation as the UK's best shopping destination outside of London.

The Style Mile initiative includes the appointment of city centre ambassadors to help visitors, the publication of free pocket guides and the promotion of street theatre to attract shoppers to the city.

The scheme involves the city council, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, and aims to strengthen and build on the city centre's position by attracting more shoppers into the centre and enhancing their shopping experience while there.

While organisers say the city centre is in a good position to weather the current economic climate, those involved believe they are taking a positive step to ensure the city centre keeps its competitive edge and continues to be a major employer and source of income for the whole of the city.
