Jury in paedophile ring trial continue deliberations

Jurors in the trial of eight alleged paedophiles will continue their deliberations for a second day on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the jurors started to consider the mountain of evidence at the High Court in Edinburgh.

Judge Lord Bannatyne is presiding over the trial of eight men who are accused of a variety of offences.

They are paint firm engineer Neil Strachan, 41, and James Rennie, ex-chief executive of LGBT Youth Scotland, both from Edinburgh; Strachan's former gay partner IT worker Colin Slaven, 23, also of Edinburgh; bank worker Ross Webber, 27, of North Berwick, East Lothian and insurance claims adjuster Craig Boath, 24, of Dundee.

Also on trial are cake making firm manager Neil Campbell, 46, of Glasgow; civil servant John Milligan, 40, of Glasgow and John Murphy, 44, of Glasgow, who works part-time as receptionist in a gay sauna.

All face a variety of child pornography charges.

Six men – Messer's Strachan, Rennie, Webber, Boath, Campbell and Milligan - are also alleged to have conspired to commit sexual offences against children.

Mr Strachan and Mr Rennie face further charges alleging serious sexual offences against young children. One alleged victim was three months old.

The trial is in its tenth week.
