Police are continuing their investigations into the sudden death of a Tayside boy after a post-mortem examination failed to determine how he died.

Eleven-year-old Michael Burns went into cardiac arrest at his home in Dundee last Thursday but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further tests will now be carried out to establish the cause of death.

The results are not expected until later this week.

The initial post-mortem was delayed for several days.

Police inquiries have been taking place into the cause of death and a family liaison officer has been appointed.

When learning of the young boy's death last week Liz Crawford, acting head teacher at Michael's school, Rowantree Primary, said: "We are absolutely devastated by this tragic news.

"Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.

"We are working closely with the education department to ensure that support and counselling is in place for pupils."
