Dundee FC manager Jocky Scott has been sacked after his club lost 3-0 to bottom-of-the-league Airdrie United.

Scott, who has taken the team to the top of the first division table, was dropped by the club's board on Saturday night.

The Dens Park board said it was a unanimous decision. "It was felt that in view of results since the turn of the year move was essential and in the best interests of the club," said a statement on the club's website.

"As a board we felt it was vital this move was made while there was still enough time for a new manager to be appointed and to secure the victories required to get the team back to the SPL at the end of the season.

"Every effort will be made to ensure the appointment of a new manager is made as quickly as possible. The club will not be advertising the post.

"The board would like to take this opportunity to thank Jocky Scott for his work since returning as manager in the autumn of 2008. His devotion to his duties and desire to get the team back to where he feels it belongs have been admirable."

Dundee had a run of five wins in a row at the end of last year. however, results have been less favourable since January. Airdrie beat them 1-0 on January 3, and since then, Dundee have only picked up nine points from eight games.

It was Scott's third spell in charge at Dens Park - he had been in the post for 15 months.

Scott is to be replaced by Gordon Chisolm, the Queen of the South boss.
