Officers searching for a missing mother in Dundee have uncovered a woman’s body.

The discovery was made in undergrowth on an embankment to the north of Ladywell roundabout in the city centre at around 3pm on Wednesday.

Police have cordoned off the area to allow an examination of the scene and were preparing to remove the body on Wednesday night.

Body found in Dundee mother search

Mary McLaren, 34, was last seen in the early hours of Thursday February 25 following a visit to Fat Sams nightclub in Dundee with her sister. She was seen in Marketgait near to its junction with King Street at around 3am with a man she met at the club.

The body was found just 500 yards away, near to a police station. Tayside Police says formal identification of the body has not yet been made.

The man has been helping the police with their enquiries into the disappearance. He was remanded in custody for an unrelated offence in a different police force area.

IN DETAIL

Ms McLaren’s disppearance sparked a massive police search operation. Her movements after leaving the club were captured on CCTV and were distributed through the media.

Following her disappearance police appealed to anyone who had been at the club to send in any pictures they had taken.

Earlier Margaret McIntosh, Mary's mother, said: "Every night we worry and I feel I don't want to go on without my daughter. My heart is broken. I love her very, very much.

A reconstruction had been planned for Wednesday night to recreate Ms McLaren's last known movements.

Tayside Police say the Marketgait will remain closed eastwards between the Lochee Road roundabout and King Street for the next 48 hours. It will remain open for vehicles travelling westwards.
