An Aberdeen maths whizz is to being sent to University at the age of 13 because his teachers can no longer answer his complex questions.

Jun Nakamura-Pinder knew his times tables at the age of four, and is currently tearing through the Higher mathematics syllabus at Harlaw Academy in Aberdeen.

He  has been attending the school for maths lessons ever since he was in primary school, and was studying Higher maths by the time he was in primary seven.

But now even his secondary school teachers are being stumped by some of Jun's questions.

And From September Jun will join students at Aberdeen University for his advanced maths lessons while continuing at school for his other subjects.

Jun said: "When you get a formula, I enjoy learning where you get that formula from and how you get to that final formula.

"It is more about the theory. I don't ask questions to try to challenge my teachers - it is just because I want to know.

"I have already worked with older people in primary when I came up to secondary school, so I'm not too intimidated by it.  I'm looking forward to it."

Fiona Lawrence, Jun's maths teacher, said: "It is to do with putting things in context and finding where you go with it next.

"He is working at the Advanced Higher level.  I did a university degree in mathematics and I can take him for the next two years in terms of where things progress to, but I can't go much further than that.

"I have found myself phoning people or looking in books - I don't want to five him the wrong information and want to make sure that the maths he understands is correct."
