Explosion Death: Mechanic Martyn Massie died following the incident at Pitmachie Garage.

A probe into the death of a young mechanic who died when an oil barrel exploded has been handed over by police to the Health and Safety Executive.

Martyn Massie, 23, from Forgue, near Huntly, was using cutting equipment at the time of the industrial accident at Pitmachie Garage, Pitmachie, near Old Rayne on June 18.

He was flown to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by air ambulance with serious head injuries but died in the early hours the following day.

Grampian Police confirmed the case had been handed to the HSE.

Mr Massie, known to friends as “Teenie” had worked at the garage for seven years. Owner Janet Keith described him as “a great employee”.
