Bail Out: AECC needs council cash
The biggest concert and conference centre in the north of Scotland could close unless councillors back a rescue package this week, it has been revealed.
Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) is struggling with multi-million pound debts and is appealing to the local authority for help.
Councillors will be asked to approve a bail-out and save the jobs of 55 workers at a meeting on Wednesday.
It is understood Aberdeen City Council has already loaned the AECC nearly £30million over the last five years.
The centre, which hosts the prestigious biennial Offshore Europe conference, is seen as pivotal for attracting top exhibitions to the city.
It is understood to contribute around £80million to the local economy every year.
