Grampian Police are appealing for witnesses as part of a review into a fatal fire in Aberdeenshire on Hogmanay three years ago.

Derek Roy,46, Derek Youngson, 19, both died in the blaze which engulfed two floors of a flat in Fraserburgh on December 31, 2006.

It took 30 firefighters almost an hour to extinguish the fire at the town’s Kirk Brae.

An investigation was carried out at the time however the full circumstances leading up to the fire remain unclear.

Detective Chief Inspector Stewart who is leading the review team said: “We are particularly interested in identifying people who had congregated in the car park at the rear of the old police office in Kirk Brae.

“In particular a male who was described as wearing a black tammy who was with a female who had her trousers tucked into her knee high boots. I must stress that these people are not considered suspects and we merely wish to identify and interview them”.

Anyone with information regarding this matter are requested to contact Grampian Police on 0845 600 5 700 or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
