Pioneering research at Aberdeen’s two universities is illustrated in a new photographic exhibition of dramatically striking images.
Where Tomorrow Begins: Reflections of Scottish Innovation showcases examples of innovation taking place in universities across Scotland.
The display was commissioned by the Scottish universities’ umbrella organisation Universities Scotland, as part of Scotland’s Year of Homecoming.
It builds on Scotland’s historical reputation of pioneering discovery over centuries to illustrate how Scottish universities continue to be world leaders.
Award winning photographer Kirsty Anderson captured innovative practices being developed at Scotland’s universities in 40 photographs, displayed on a series of 16 imposing cubes.
The University of Aberdeen’s projects illustrate a new treatment for Alzheimer’s disease and new camera technology which can sustain pressure of 8,000 tonnes per square metre and was used to photograph one of the world’s deepest dwelling fishes.
Both Robert Gordon University submissions focus on materials and devices developed by researchers which deal with identifying and eradicating pollutants.
The exhibition is on display at the city’s Satrosphere Science Centre until Sunday as part of a national tour.
