Police are staging a reconstruction of a fatal road accident in which a man was struck by a motorbike after crossing a road to pray.

Mohammed Mushtaq, 58, was hit by the vehicle on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road on Friday.

On Tuesday morning police closed off the road near Marshall Trailers in Stoneywood as part of the investigation into the crash.

Mr Mushtaq, who lived in the city’s Rose Street was a well-known member of Aberdeen’s Moslem community.

It is understood that he parked his van at the side of the dual carriageway before crossing over to a field to pray.

The accident happened as Mr Mushtaq was crossing back over the road to return to his van.

The motorcyclist was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
