An airgun campaign in the north-east has been hailed a success after more than 50 weapons were surrendered.
A total of 51 air rifles and pistols, BB guns and replica firearms will be destroyed after being handed into Grampian Police following a month-long drive.
The force is following up the initiative with a hard-hitting DVD emphasising the dangers of air weapon misuse to be shown in schools across the region.
Aberdeen division Chief Inspector Adrian Berkeley said: "We are delighted at the success of this campaign.
"People have acted very responsibly in delivering air guns they no longer want or use so they can be safely disposed of.
"Our message is simple – those convicted of misusing air guns or replica guns face going to jail."
The campaign was launched by airgun shooting victim Claire Ewen, 23, who still has a pellet lodged behind her eye after she was targeted while walking in an Aberdeen street in April.
Claire said: "I'm relieved so many people have chosen to support the police in this campaign and I'd still ask anyone who has an air gun they have no use for to hand it in as soon as possible.
"Every air gun given to the police makes it less likely what happened to me will happen to anyone else."
