Maurice Ross has been paraded at Pittodrie after signing on until the end of the year.

The former Scotland and Rangers right back put pen to paper after being released by Turkish outfit Kocaelispor.

Although delighted to have joined the Reds, the 28-year-old says he has given no thought to extending his stay in the north-east.

Ross said: “It’s been kind of whirlwind. Last week I was in training and then this week I’m signed up so I’ve not really had time to think about it.

“I’m just here to show I can still play a bit, well hopefully I can, and do the business for the manager who’s giving me a great opportunity here.”

Asked whether he is returning to Scotland a better player after stints in England, Norway and Turkey, Ross was particularly unassuming.

He said: “Well I’ve not played yet, so the proof is in the pudding. I’m sure I’ll be judged on what I’m doing week to week. That’s something I’ve missed to be honest, that pressure to perform and you’re judged in the papers and there’s pressure up here in terms of the support, which everyone knows about. That’s something I’ve missed and something I’m looking forward to.”

Despite being a former Rangers player, Ross hopes to be given the opportunity to win over the Aberdeen faithful.

He said: Initially I’m going to get stick and stuff. If you’re not doing it, whether you’re an Aberdeen boy or not, you’re going to get it.

“These guys are paying their money. I just hope I’m given a fair crack of the whip in terms of, it’s not just being picked on. If I come up here and do my job defensively and also in an attacking sense as a full back then I hope I’d be given a fair crack of the whip.”

Manager Mark McGhee said: “I would hope that he would persuade us that we should be desperate to keep him beyond January. But Maurice has ideas about where he wants to play and that lies abroad I think.

“So that’s fine and if that ends up happening and we can benefit from him in the meantime, then that’ll be fabulous. We’d like to keep him longer, particularly if he does well.”

Ross will go straight into the squad for the visit of Dundee United on Saturday.
