A north-east MP is to host a meeting on school bus safety, a year after two Aberdeenshire youngsters tragically died.
Alexander Milne and Robyn Oldham were killed within weeks of each other in Aberdeenshire after being hit by cars while stepping off their school buses.
Local MP Malcolm Bruce will meet with bus operators, safety campaigners and politicians in Inverurie on Wednesday in an attempt to draw up a framework for improving bus safety.
Twelve-year-old Alexander from Lonmay was struck by a car on the B9033 at St Combs near Fraserburgh on September 19 last year.
The tragedy occurred just two weeks after Robyn Oldham, 15, was killed in a similar incident just two weeks earlier.
The incidents prompted calls for a major review of school bus safety. Included among the proposed changes was a ban on drivers from overtaking stationary buses.
Similar legislation already exists in North America where Aberdeen-based First bus operate the iconic yellow school buses.
At the time, the then Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon rejected the calls, arguing drivers may take extra risks by overtaking school buses to avoid getting stuck behind them when they stop.
