The cost of floods which hit Moray earlier this month will run into millions of pounds.

A report by the regions council estimates the figure may be as high as £2.7million.

Houses and businesses were devastated after heavy rain caused flooding, with many people forced to evacuate their homes.

Hundreds of people are yet to return to their homes in Elgin, Fochabers, Rothes and the surrounding area.

The Scottish Government have agreed to meet the cost of some of the damage.

In addition, Moray Council is asking for a capital grant of £2m to cover repairs and replacements.

The latest flooding is the third time the region has been badly affected after previous deluges in 1997 and 2002.
